Quick Tips: How to Update to Skype for Business
Since the start of the Skype for Business roll out several weeks ago, we have received a few requests on how this is actually done. Depending on where your particular Office 365 tenant is during this release, there are a few different methods you can try.
Currently, Skype for Business is rolling out in North America, with the rest of the world to follow towards the end of this month into June. So if neither of these options are working for you, it may just be because you are outside of the region where Skype is being released. In that case, you can expect these options to become available in the coming weeks.
Method 1
The first method to update is accomplished through the Office 365 online portal: portal.office365.com.
First, click into the gear icon in the top right corner, and then Office 365 settings in the drop down window.
From there, go to the software tab of the settings where you will see the Office 365 downloads you have available on your account. In the left side of the page, you should see several sub tabs listing specific Office 365 applications.
One of these should read either Lync Online or Skype for Business. If it reads Skype for Business, then great! You can choose to download and install straight from the portal.
If this option is not available for you, then you may move onto the second method.
Method 2
Through this method, you can update to Skype for Business from any Office 365 desktop app (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Simply click the file tab in the top left corner to access options,
And then click on Office Account to get to your account settings. There you will see a button labeled Office Updates, click it and select Update Now.
This will offer a download to the latest version of Office including the Skype for Business client. You will have to exit out of your office apps to proceed with the download, which should take about 5 minutes.
Congratulations! You should now have Skype for Business successfully downloaded to your computer. Get ready to start collaborating in style!
